Details about the 2024–2025 CLAT Exam and Registration



The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has officially opened the CLAT Exam 2024-25 application form on July 15, 2024, at 12 pm. Aspiring law students can now register for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) through the official website - consortiumofnlus.ac.in. The deadline to submit the application form is October 15, 2024. The application process is entirely online, and interested candidates must complete their registration by October 15, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

Indian Nationals/NRIs seeking admission to UG program must appear for CLAT 2024-25. Foreign Nationals are exempted from taking the test. Candidates applying under NRI/NRI Sponsored/Foreign National seats should refer to the respective NLU e-brochures for specific details. It is essential for NRI category candidates to appear for CLAT 2024-25 if the NLU admits such category through CLAT rankings.

Application Instructions

To register, candidates need to provide a personal mobile number and email ID. Upon registration, an OTP will be sent for validation. Once validated, candidates can log in using their registered mobile number and password. It is crucial to fill the application form carefully, ensuring that names and details match official documents. Incomplete forms or incorrect information may lead to disqualification.

Documents Required

Candidates need to upload the following documents in PDF format:

  • Recent passport-size photograph with a plain background

  • Signature of the candidate

Application Fee

The application fee for General/OBC/NRI candidates is Rs. 4,000, while SC/ST/BPL/PWD candidates need to pay Rs. 3,500. Additionally, previous years' question papers can be purchased for Rs. 500. The application fee is non-refundable and must be paid online. Candidates will also bear the bank transaction charges.

UG Syllabus and Exam Pattern

The UG-CLAT 2025 focuses on evaluating comprehension and reasoning skills rather than prior knowledge. The 2-hour test comprises 120 multiple-choice questions, each carrying 1 mark. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. The questions are divided across five subjects:

  • English Language: Passages followed by questions testing comprehension and language skills.

  • Current Affairs, including General Knowledge: Passages from news and journalistic sources, assessing awareness of contemporary events and historical significance.

  • Legal Reasoning: Passages involving legal matters or moral philosophical enquiries, requiring application of general principles.

  • Logical Reasoning: Short passages with questions to identify arguments, analyze patterns, and infer conclusions.

  • Quantitative Techniques: Numerical information requiring mathematical operations based on 10th standard mathematics.

Preparation and Resources

The Consortium plans to publish preparatory materials, including sample questions, model papers, and instructional materials for each subject. Candidates who complete their application will have access to a learning platform with these resources and online sessions with subject experts. Regular reading of quality newspapers and periodicals and practicing quantitative techniques from 10th standard textbooks are recommended.

Admit Card and Exam Day Instructions

Candidates can download their Admit Card/Hall ticket by logging into their account on the CLAT website. The exact date for availability will be announced later.
